Resort, Hotel, & Leisure Pools

Hotel and Resort Pools

Swimming pools have long been popular amenities at hotels and resorts. Many prospective guests make a pool a requirement during the hotel selection process. Hotel pools tend to be very different from public swimming pools. A public pool tries to balance recreational water activities with educational activities, exercise, and competitive swimming. Hotel and resort pools are under no such pressure. Most hotels and resorts have pools that focus on recreation, relaxation and ambience. A well-designed pool can also enhance the hotel or resort’s aesthetic appeal, giving it a competitive advantage over neighbouring facilities.

FEATURES OF LEISURE POOLS

Leisure pools tend to be relatively shallow and come with a range of features designed for play and relaxation, making them particularly attractive to parents who are traveling with their children. Hotel pools, whether indoors or out, usually come with at least one spa. Water features are common, whether you’re looking at a full-sized water slide, fountains, or artificial waterfall.

Resort pools include features for people who just want to sit back and soak in addition to more active features. Sun benches are submerged seats, usually located in the shallow end of the pool, while some pools feature a swim-up bar. Leisure pools in more temperate climes may be heated during the winter months: swimming in a heated outdoor pool as the snow falls is an oddly satisfying experience.

HOTEL POOLS AS DECORATIVE ELEMENTS

Most outdoor hotel pools lack lifeguards and are closed once the sun sets. At this point many resort pools shimmer with light. Some pools border patio seating for restaurants, so diners can look out over the lit-up water as they eat. Pools filled with guests by day transform into romantic focal points at night.

Leisure pools often come in unique shapes, sometimes based on the hotel or resort’s logo. A hotel with a hibiscus on its logo, for instance, may want a pool shaped like the flower. Other hotel pools evoke a specific time or setting: the marble tiles of a Roman bath, for instance, or the lush nature of the rain forest. Any shape or design is possible.
