Spray Parks

Designing the Perfect Spray Park

A spray park offers a chance for people of all ages to play with water no matter their swimming ability. On a hot summer’s day water parks are some of the best ways for children (and adults) to cool off while having fun. Spray parks may be standalone facilities, part of larger water parks, or complement a swimming pool.

SPRAY PARK FEATURES

The first things you notice are the water features themselves: pipes, water domes, misters, water activity tables, water noodles, sprinklers, and wheels. More complex parks may have water-based climbing areas and slides. Parents old enough to remember running through lawn sprinklers or open fire hydrants recognize water parks for what they are: a child’s dream come to gloriously soggy life. You may even find “sit and soak” areas — benches where you can relax under a gentle spray of water.

SPRAY PARK SAFETY AND SUSTAINABILITY

Although drowning is highly unlikely at a spray park, residents may notice that aquatic facilities are designed to keep injuries to a minimum. Tiles and ground cover are chosen for their soft, forgiving nature if someone trips and falls. A spray park must meet the same codes and safety regulations as any playground. Many parks have rubberized ground coverings to keep users safe.

The pumps and plumbing under the park are highly sophisticated pieces of technology. Our aquatic designer considers sustainability when planning the park. The water used by the park does not go to waste. Drained water is treated using sand filtration, chlorine, and/or ultraviolet treatment and then recirculated through the park. The sophisticated filtration and disinfecting systems ensure park users play in only the cleanest water while the park conserves as much water as possible.
